Waaberi Counseling LLC

Philosophy

At Waaberi Counseling, my mission is to empower individuals to lead fulfilling and joyful lives. I acknowledge that seeking counseling and entrusting your well-being to a professional can be intimidating , especially when you are do not know them. However, I recognize the courage it takes to reach out for therapy, whether for yourself or a loved one. My goal is to create a nurturing and supportive environment that respects your beliefs, values, and guides you towards becoming your authentic self.

I also recognize the importance of working with a therapist who share similar backgrounds and identities, fostering a sense of connection and understanding. I am patient, compassionate, direct, and thrive on building meaningful connections with individuals.

I believe that our emotional health is just as important as our physical health. When we care for both, life feels more balanced and fulfilling. Therapy offers a safe space to explore what’s weighing on you and can be a powerful step toward healing, growth, and creating the life you want.

Meet Asha Omar, LCSW

I am a first-generation Somali-American woman, bilingual in Somali and English, and proud of my bicultural identity. My family came to the U.S. as refugees after the civil war in Somalia, and I grew up in Georgia where I attended high school and college. More than a decade ago, I moved to the Pacific Northwest for graduate school, and it has felt like home ever since.

Outside of my work, I’m a mom of teenagers, including a child with a disability, which has shaped my perspective in meaningful ways. In my free time, I love cooking, reading, connecting with friends and family, and yes — scrolling TikTok for a laugh or two. My happy place is the ocean, or as we call it here, the coast — a space where I always feel grounded and at peace.

The name of my practice, Waaberi, means ‘dawn’ in Somali. It’s also the name of the town where I was born and raised. For me, it symbolizes new beginnings, hope, and the healing journeys we take together.

"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style" Maya Angelou

About Waaberi Counseling

Experience

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in social services and mental health. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside refugees and immigrants from many different backgrounds, supporting them through the challenges of resettling and transition to a new country and culture.

I’ve also spent several years working as a school and community-based therapist, where I enjoyed helping children and teens grow, build confidence, and navigate life’s ups and downs.

More recently, my work has centered on supporting BIPOC teens and adults as they explore their identities, heal from trauma, and find strength in their stories.

What brings me the most joy is creating a safe, supportive space where people feel seen, valued, and empowered to move forward in their lives

Services

I offer counseling for adults, youth, and families from all walks of life, with a special focus on supporting members of the global majority — including refugees, immigrants, and BIPOC teens and adults.

In addition to therapy, I also provide clinical supervision for those working toward professional licensure.

In my practice, I provide a safe and supportive space to explore challenges, build on strengths, and work toward the changes that matter most to you. My approach is trauma informed, client-centered and strengths-based, which means I believe you are the expert in your own life, and I’m here to walk alongside you in your journey.

At the heart of my work is a belief in your ability to grow, heal, and move forward — and I’m committed to supporting you every step of the way.

Approach

My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental space where you can truly be yourself. I believe healing happens when you feel safe and supported, so I work to create a trauma-informed environment where it’s okay to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace.

Together, we’ll focus on building the skills and tools that help you grow, heal, and move toward the life you want. I draw from different therapeutic approaches and tailor each session to fit your unique needs — because no two people are the same. Above all, I value building a trusting relationship with you, where you feel heard, understood, and empowered in your healing journey.
